Building a future for everyone requires thinking holistically about how we live out our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. It's something we're thinking about both internally in our day-to-day work at CZI, as well as externally as we interact with grantees and partners. This week, my teammates shared stories about their backgrounds, the opportunities they've had and why they're each inspired to help create these opportunities for more people. I also talked to Jeff Raikes of the Raikes Foundation and Fred Blackwell of San Francisco Foundation about how they built equity and inclusion as operating principles and key values within their organizations. I'm looking forward to continuing this conversation, learning and implementing these approaches to promote inclusion through our work.

Time with the interns this summer! Nothing is more contagious than their optimism. I told them the same thing I tell myself: Be kind and curious. Be an active listener and have the humility to ask a question when you aren't sure! It's the only way to learn and to do a little better ever day.

Spent the afternoon with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative team and Mark, serving at the EHP - Ecumenical Hunger Program. This group provides practical, much-needed assistance, from food boxes to clothing and furniture, to families experiencing hardship in East Palo Alto and beyond. CZI team members spent the afternoon volunteering here and nine other local organizations across the peninsula. Proud of our teammates and to be part of this community!
